What to do if you cannot stream Netflix 4K Ultra HD content
Different content providers have different requirements for streaming movies and TV shows in 4K. Check with Netflix for the latest information regarding requirements for streaming Netflix shows in 4K Ultra HD.
What you need to stream Netflix shows in 4K on your Roku® streaming device
To play movies and TV shows from Netflix in 4K, you will need:
- A Netflix plan that supports 4K Ultra HD
- A Roku streaming device that supports 4K Ultra HD
- A 4K Ultra HD compatible television that supports more than 30fps
- A Premium High Speed HDMI® Cable (*not needed when connecting a 4K-compatible Roku Streaming Stick® directly to a compatible TV)
Why do I need a 4K compatible television that supports more than 30fps?
When playing video, “fps” refers to frames per second, also known as frame rate. Each frame is a still image; displaying frames in quick succession creates the illusion of motion or animation. The more frames per second, the smoother the motion appears.
The optimal frame rate for 4K is more than 30fps; however, some 4K Ultra HD TVs only support 4K at 30fps. This is important because Netflix will only play 4K content if the HDMI connection with the TV supports 4K at more than 30fps.
Note that a 4K Ultra HD compatible television that supports more than 30fps is not the only requirement for playing 4K content, go here to get more information on setting up your Roku streaming player for 4K.
Why don’t I see the “4K row” in the Netflix channel?
You may find that the “4K row” in the Netflix channel is not displayed if an HDMI connection capable of playing 4K content at more than 30fps is not detected.
