What to do if your Roku device is lost or stolen
If your Roku® device has been lost or stolen, we recommend that you contact your local law enforcement agency to report the incident and request a police report (should you need it to dispute any unauthorized purchases). While Roku does not have a tool for tracking lost or stolen devices, we do recommend taking the following precautions.
Remove streaming device from Roku account and cancel subscriptions
When you first discover your Roku streaming device is lost or stolen, immediately remove it from your Roku account. Your Roku account stores information about which Roku streaming devices you own, which channels you have installed, preferences, settings, and payment method. Removing the lost or stolen streaming device from your Roku account prevents unauthorized purchases.
Removing a streaming device does not close your Roku account, which means you’ll still be charged for any active subscriptions on your account. If the lost or stolen streaming device is your only Roku device, you may want to turn off auto-renew and cancel your subscriptions.
Remove streaming device from service provider accounts
To prevent unauthorized purchases, sign in to your service provider account (for example, Netflix, VUDU, Fandango) and remove the lost or stolen Roku streaming device. Contact the channel provider if you need help removing the device.
Removing a streaming device does not close your service provider account. If the lost or stolen streaming device is your only Roku device, you may want to consider cancelling your subscription. There is often a limit to the number of devices that can be associated with a provider account at one time. Once removed, the lost or stolen device will not count against that limit.
Keep Roku Smart Home device on your Roku account
If your Roku Smart Home device is stolen, don't delete it from your Roku account. It can only be set up using your Roku account. So if anyone tries to set up your Roku Smart Home device using a different account, you'll get an email notification letting you know. To receive the notification, it needs to remain attached to your account.
Additional steps to consider
- If your Roku account credentials have been compromised, change your Roku account email address and/or password. If you use the same credentials to sign in to your service provider accounts, contact the provider and change your email address and/or password.
- If your credit or debit card has been lost or stolen, change the payment method on your Roku account.
- If you’re concerned about unauthorized purchases via your Roku device, contact your financial institution and request a ‘STOP’ on your credit card.
