How to adjust ambient light sensing on your Roku TV system
Whether viewing in a room filled with sunlight or a dark environment at night, Roku TV™ systems equipped with an ambient light sensor can automatically adjust the brightness of the picture to provide a consistent viewing experience during varying lighting conditions. This article describes the feature in more detail and provides instructions for adjusting the setting.
How the ambient light sensor works
The ambient light sensor in your compatible Roku TV system continually measures the amount of available light in the environment and uses this information to calculate adjustments to picture brightness. When a significant amount of light is measured, picture brightness is increased to combat brighter ambient light. When minimal to no light is measured, picture brightness is reduced, or dimmed, to avoid a bright screen when your eyes are adjusted to a dark room.
Matching the response of the human eye in this manner helps you to see details and colors the same on your TV whether viewing in a bright or dark room.
How to change ambient light sensor setting
You can enable automatic brightness, if your TV has an ambient light sensor, or choose a specific brightness level in the TV Picture Settings menu. Use the instructions below to change the TV brightness setting on your TV.
- Press Home on your TV remote
- Scroll and select Settings
- Select TV picture settings
- Select TV brightness
- Select Auto to enable ambient sensing or select a constant brightness level
- Press OK on your remote
- Note: If you do not see the Auto selection, your TV does not have an ambient light sensor.
