Roku Smart Home software release notes

Roku Smart Home products make your home a safer, smarter, brighter, more connected space with surprisingly simple home monitoring, cameras, lights, and power.

The newest updates to Roku Smart Home allow users to access even more features and further integrate their smart home system with their Roku streaming players and Roku TV models.

Roku OS integration updates will roll out to users over the coming months. Key features, updates, and supported devices are outlined below.

Roku OS Integration

  • Note: To access the following smart home features, users must also have Roku streaming players or Roku TV models.

Package Notifications on Roku streaming players and Roku TV models: No need to pause your favorite show to see if your package has arrived—Roku Cameras and Doorbell owners will now get instant notifications on their Roku streaming players and Roku TV models when a package arrives. A Roku Smart Home Camera Subscription is required for this feature.

Roku Video Doorbell Events in Cameras App on Roku streaming players and Roku TV models: Roku Smart Home video doorbell owners can now view event history recordings right on their TV screen using the Cameras App. A Roku Smart Home Camera Subscription is required for this feature.

New feature updates will be accessible to users with the following Roku Smart Home devices:

  • Roku Smart Home Cameras: CW2000R, CS1000R, CS1000P2R, CP1000R, CW1000R, CF1000R.
  • Roku Smart Home Video Doorbells: DB1000R and DS1000R.

Roku Smart Home Spring 2023 Updates

Roku® Smart Home brings ease and simplicity to home monitoring, cameras, lighting, and power with super smart, but surprisingly simple, smart home products.

With the launch of the new Roku Home Monitoring system and Smart Light Strip+, new features have been added to the Roku Smart Home mobile app to help users create a safer, smarter, more customizable home.

Additionally, new updates to the Roku OS brings seamless integration between Roku Smart Home products and Roku streaming devices.

Features of the Home Monitoring System and Light Strip+ will be available upon launch. Roku Smart Home + Roku OS integration updates will roll out to users over the coming months. Roku Smart Home Software and Smart Home Mobile App Updates

New Roku Home Monitoring System: The Roku Smart Home mobile app will now support setup and management of new Roku Smart Home Monitoring devices for home security. Users are able to self-monitor their home within the app.

  • Setup: A step-by-step guide with illustrations and videos will walk users through installation of their home monitoring system.
  • Free self-monitoring: Users can easily monitor activity in their home and respond to triggered alarms the way they need to. No subscription required.
  • Instant notifications: Users can bypass their phone’s Do Not Disturb mode to get an instant notification when a sensor is triggered or an alarm goes off.
  • Customize alarm modes: Users can choose which sensors are active in "Home" or "Away" mode. For example, users can disarm motion sensors while in home mode, but keep entry sensors armed.

Roku Smart Home Pro Monitoring Subscription: With the availability of the Roku Smart Home Monitoring System, users can achieve peace of mind with a professional monitoring subscription. Users can manage their Roku Smart Home Subscription on my.roku.com and access security features in the Roku Smart Home mobile app.

  • 24/7 professional monitoring powered by Noonlight: Roku Home Monitoring System users has the option to subscribe to 24/7 professional monitoring and get emergency help from live, U.S.-based agents when an alarm is triggered.
  • Emergency assistance: Professional monitoring subscribers can request round-the-clock emergency assistance with one tap in the Roku Smart Home mobile app or on their Roku Keypad.

New Light Strip+: The new Smart Light Strip+ allows users to create dynamic, multi-colored scenes with new features and effects in the Roku Smart Home mobile app.

  • Multi-colored scenes: With the new Roku Smart Light Strip+, each 1ft section can be individually controlled with 16 million color options, giving users full creative control to create a vibrant rainbow, a soft ombre, or any color scheme they like.
  • Enhanced lighting effects: Additional lighting effects are available with Roku Light Strip+. Nine special effects include shadow, leap, flicker, marquee, color focus, water, sea wave, cascade, and starlight.

Roku OS Integration

  • Note: To access the following smart home features, users must also have a Roku player or smart TV.

Roku Smart Home Monitoring System Notifications: With Roku's new Home Monitoring System, critical alarm notifications will be displayed directly on a user's Roku player or smart TV. When a user's Home Monitoring System is set to "Home" or "Away" and a sensor is triggered, they will see a notification on their TV screen.

Roku Voice Control for Lights & Plugs: Roku Voice will be available for Roku lights and plugs, giving users voice control over the power and customization of their devices. Roku Voice control requires a Roku voice remote or the Roku mobile app.

  • Lights: Roku Smart Bulb and Smart Light Strip owners will be able to use Roku Voice to turn their lights on/off, change colors, color temperature, and brightness.
  • Plugs: Roku Indoor and Outdoor Smart Plug owners will be able to use Roku Voice to turn their plugs on/off.

Roku Camera Events in Cameras App on Roku Devices: Currently, Roku Smart Home camera owners with a Roku Smart Home Camera subscription can view event recordings in the Roku Smart Home mobile app. With the new updates, Roku Smart Home Camera subscribers with a Roku player or smart TV will be able to view event recordings right on their TV screen using the Cameras App.

  • Note: Camera Events in the Cameras App will only be available with Roku Smart Home Cameras (CW2000R, CS1000R, CS1000P2R, CP1000R, CW1000R).

New feature updates will be accessible to users with the following Roku Smart Home devices:

  • Roku Smart Home Cameras: CW2000R, CS1000R, CS1000P2R, CP1000R, CW1000R.
  • Roku Smart Home Lighting: LS2016R, LS2032R, BS1000R, BS1000P4R, BC1000R, BC1000P2R, LS1016R, LS1032R.
  • Roku Smart Home Plugs: PS1000R, PS1000P2R, PW1000R.
  • Roku Smart Home Monitoring: SS1000R, SS100KR, SS100MR, SS100EP3R.
