Content from cable or satellite

How to find movies and TV shows available with your cable or satellite subscription

There are some streaming channels in the Roku Channel Store that are only available to customers with a cable or satellite subscription, these are known as authenticated channels or TV Everywhere channels.

TV Everywhere channels are published by the cable/TV network and offer cable and satellite subscribers access to additional content on their Roku® streaming player or Roku TV as part of their subscription. For example, if you subscribe to ESPN through your cable provider, then you can access additional ESPN content by downloading ESPN from the Roku Channel Store.

How to find TV Everywhere channels

On your Roku streaming device, you can select Home > Streaming Channels and browse the TV Everywhere genre, or you can use Roku Search to find channels. A channel that requires a cable or satellite subscription will display Cable or satellite required in the details as seen below.

You can also look for TV Everywhere channels on your computer or mobile device. Visit channelstore.roku.com and find a selection of channels in the “Watch with Cable” category, or browse other categories and genres. Details for TV Everywhere channels will display CABLE OR SATELLITE SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED.

Authenticating with your service provider

TV Everywhere channels require that you authenticate with your cable or satellite provider to verify that you are eligible, for example that you subscribe to Showtime to access the content in Showtime Anytime. After you add the channel to your Roku device, launch the channel and follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Note: To authenticate, you will need the login credentials (username, password) for the account you created with your cable or satellite provider. If you do not have an account or you have forgotten your credentials, you will need to contact your service provider.

Some TV Everywhere channels allow you to sign in directly from your Roku device using an on-screen keyboard to enter your username and password. However, other TV Everywhere channels use a method for subscriber sign-in like the one described below.

  1. Launch the channel and a “link code” is displayed (generally consisting of a combination of letters and/or numbers) along with a web address.
  2. Open a web browser on your computer or mobile device and enter the web address.
  3. After the channel website loads, enter the link code in the indicated field.
  4. Select the cable or satellite provider you subscribe to.
  5. When a new window or tab opens for your cable or satellite provider, sign-in using your username and password.
  6. After you successfully sign in with your cable or satellite provider, your Roku device will update the channel reflecting your signed in state.

Note: Cable and Satellite providers will periodically require you to sign in again.

Automatic sign-in

After you successfully sign into the first TV Everywhere channel, additional TV Everywhere channels installed on your Roku device will automatically be authenticated when possible using a feature called Single Sign On. Not all cable or satellite providers support Single Sign On. Similarly, not all channels support Single Sign On.

Single Sign On works with most cable and satellite providers. Here are a few notable exceptions:

  • Spectrum (Bright House Networks, Time Warner Cable, Charter)
  • Comcast XFINITY
  • Altice (includes Optimum, Suddenlink and CableVision)
  • Verizon
  • Frontier
