What to do during an alarm on your Roku Home Monitoring System
When an intrusion is detected by the sensor on your Roku® Home Monitoring System SE, an alarm will be triggered. If you have a Pro Monitoring subscription powered by Noonlight, Noonlight will contact you with a text and phone call to confirm the alarm and, if needed, send emergency services. You can also activate an alarm with the panic button.
This article provides information about what happens during an alarm and how to cancel an alarm in the Roku Smart Home mobile app, on your Roku Keypad, or with a Noonlight agent.
What happens during an alarm?
During an alarm, your Roku Smart Home monitoring system will perform the actions selected in the Roku Smart Home mobile app settings. Alarm settings can be changed in Home monitoring settings > Home & Away.
When an alarm is triggered, the following will happen by default.
- The 88dB siren on the monitoring hub will play an alarm sound.
- You will receive a Critical Alert (iOS®) or push notification (Android™ and iOS).
If you have Pro Monitoring, the Noonlight monitoring center will be notified and the following will also happen.
- An SMS text will be sent to all contacts.
- Starting with the primary contact, all contacts will be called in the order they are listed in the app.
- If the alarm is still not cancelled, a Noonlight agent will contact emergency services to request law enforcement be dispatched to your address.
What is the difference between an alert and an alarm?
An alert is a notification of an event that could potentially escalate to an alarm.
- Example: You come back home, open the door, and walk in front of the keypad while the system is in Away mode. Your keypad will beep to request the PIN. This is an alert.
An alarm is an event captured by your entry or motion that is detected as an intrusion.
How to cancel an alarm
You can cancel an alarm in the Roku Smart Home Mobile App or on your Roku Keypad. If you have Pro Monitoring powered by Noonlight, you can also cancel an alarm by providing your code word to a Noonlight agent.
- Note: If an alarm is cancelled after law enforcement has been dispatched, it is up officer’s discretion to decide whether to proceed to visiting your home or cancel the patrol.
How to cancel an alarm in the app
You can cancel an alarm on the Monitoring tab in the mobile app by tapping Cancel alarm.
How to cancel an alarm on the keypad
You can cancel an alarm at any time by pressing disarm on the keypad, typing in your PIN, and then pressing the checkmark button.
How to cancel an alarm with a Noonlight agent
An alarm can be cancelled by responding to the text with the code word or providing the code word to the Noonlight agent when they call you.
If you forget your PIN and code word, you can still cancel the alarm with Noonlight over the phone by answering two security questions to confirm your identity.
- Tip: Your code word can be changed in the Roku Smart Home mobile app on the Monitoring Tab: Home monitoring settings > PIN & code word > Code word.
Tips for preventing false alarms
- Install the motion sensor using the instruction from the manual, especially if your family has pets.
- Teach home members and visitors how to use the system.
- Close doors and windows before turning your system on.
- Choose a PIN that you will easily remember so you can quickly turn off an alarm.
- Remember your code word so that you can cancel the alarm when the monitoring center is verifying with you.
- Check sensors regularly to make sure they are securely attached to windows and doors.
