How to group and sort your Roku Smart Home devices

After your Roku® Smart Home devices are connected, you can use the Roku Smart Home mobile app to group together multiple devices of the same type and control and adjust them all at once. Choose to create a device group of your smart cameras and view all their live streams on a single screen or group your smart bulbs and light strips in a single room and adjust brightness and color temperature before turning on music sync to the beat of your favorite tunes.

Can I add any Roku Smart Home device to a group?

Device groups can only contain a specific type of Roku Smart Home device as described below.

  • Camera group: Indoor and outdoor smart cameras
  • Entry sensor group: Roku Entry Sensors
  • Motion sensor group: Roku Motion Sensors
  • Lighting group: Smart bulbs and light strips
  • Indoor Plug group: Indoor smart plugs
  • Outdoor Plug group: Outdoor smart plugs

As an example, you can group an indoor camera with a floodlight camera, but you cannot group an indoor camera with a smart bulb or light strip. Smart home video doorbells cannot be added to any device group.

How to create a group

Launch the Roku Smart Home mobile app for iOS® and Android and use the steps below to create a device group from the Home Home screen icon in Roku Smart Home mobile app screen.

  1. Tap the plus sign add a device icon in Roku Smart Home mobile app from the navigation bar
  2. Select Add device group
  3. Select the type of group to create
  4. Enter a group name
  5. Check the box next to each device you wish to add
  6. Tap Done when finished

After you create a device group, individual member devices no longer appear on the Home screen and are only accessible from the group page. Once you select a device from the group page, you can adjust settings and control the device the same as you could before it was added to the group.

How to edit a group

Open the device group from the Home screen and tap Settings settings icon in Roku Smart Home mobile app to perform the actions described below.

  • Note: The <device type> selection is determined by the type of device group (e.g., Cameras, Sockets, etc.)

Create a rule

  1. Tap Rules
  2. Select Create rule and follow the on-screen instructions

Change the group name

  1. Tap Name
  2. Enter the new name
  3. Select Done when finished

Group names can be 20 characters or less.

Reorder the devices

  1. Select <device type> in group
  2. Tap and hold the 3 lines 3 line menu icon in Roku Smart Home mobile app and move a device to its new location. Repeat for other devices
  3. Tap Save when finished

Remove or add a device

When a device is removed, it is not deleted from your Roku account, but simply removed from the group. After it is removed, it will appear back on the Home screen as an individual device. To add a new device, it must be connected and appear on the Home screen in the Roku Smart Home mobile app. Refer to the setup articles on the smart home page for help.

  1. Select <device type> in group
  2. Remove or add a device
    • Remove: From the upper section, tap the red Circle
    • Add: From the lower section, tap the empty Circle
  3. Tap Save when finished

Delete a group

When you delete a group, all member devices will appear on the Home screen again as individual devices. The group will no longer appear.

  1. Select <device type> in group
  2. Tap the Delete <device type> group button
  3. Confirm by selecting Delete
